Apsely House

Dr. Macfarlane had his myth class attend a little field trip to Apsley house. Since I'm not in the myth class, I didn't have to bring a notebook and I could check my thinking cap at the door.

Well that was sort of a bad idea... I forgot my jacket. It was sunny, but very windy and cold.

We took the bus to the house. I have actually ridden the bus here a couple of times. I don't really like it. Every time I go with Dr. Macfarlane we wait much longer that it "normally" takes. Today we waited for 20 minutes, which is about the time it would be to take the tube...twice. He finally told us that we were just going to get on the tube. As we all crossed the street what happened to show up but the 148 double decker bus...

Apsley House

The Apsley House is all about the Duke of Wellington. Probably because he lived there. His most important contribution? He made wellies popular; they're named after him you know... (Some people might disagree with me on this point and say that his life's triumph was defeating Napoleon at Waterloo, but that's beside the point...) The house is filled with art and gifts that he got for kicking Bonaparte's trash. However, even with all of the cool swords my favorite has to be the massive statue of Napoleon on the way up the stairs.

Nappie
Napoleon had this statue commissioned, but he didn't like it and threw a temper tantrum so it ended up in Wellesley's posession. I don't know why he was so pissy, he's like three times bigger than he was and he has the body of greek god. Dude, be grateful.

Tonight after a quick hop to Primark to get sweats because I can't wear pjs to breakfast, (three pounds my friends) we decided we wanted gelato from the shop near the center. Rounded the corner, it's closed. After eight, very few shops are open. So we went to McDonald's. I was feeling lame, but then I walked in and saw a small advertisement near the fries for fried apple pies. I kind of had a mini freak out, and I'm pretty sure I scared the girl at the counter... and the other patrons.
Me: DO YOU FRY YOUR APPLE PIES?!
MickyD's Chick: ... (quizzical face)
Me: DO YOU FRY OR BAKE YOUR APPLE PIES??
MDC: Huh?
Me: DO YOU FRY OR-
MDC: Yes, we fry them.
Me: Oh. I'll have one please.

  1. Dude, I totally know that sculpture of Napoleon from my Art History classes. Sidenote- love the Nappie nickname. I may start using it.
PS- I agree with you on the popularity of Wellies as his most important contribution to the history of the world.
